Job Description

PURPOSE:

Plan and coordinate activities of Research & Development relating to design and development of tooling, automation of equipment, new processes. Ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintain existing equipment, automation and vision systems to support production needs.

Understand and make automation software adjustments and program changes to improve process (Fanuc, Epson, Keyence, etc).

Research new equipment and automation ideas to aide in capital planning, including details.

Monitors Continuous Improvement Projects and Corrective Action projects to ensure documentation is maintained and current.

Assist with the APQP process on new product launches.

Leads, plans and/or participates in projects to improve capabilities in production and related areas.

Promotes adherence to Quality System and other controlling documents and procedures in production. Recommends process changes where documentation does not describe current best practices.

Develop, revise and maintain work instructions and develop computer-oriented systems to process data; maintain records and compliance.

Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.

Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

Works with Quality, Engineering and Production to ensure consistent interpretation and application of methods, standards and policies.

Provides troubleshooting for manufacturing processes. Work to revise process parameters as necessary to meet or exceed cost control requirements.

Observe all prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.

Job Requirements

ADDITIONAL SKILLS OR CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on Engineering preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience preferred
  • Rubber molding, adhesive coating, mold tooling and automation experience a preferred
  • CAD modeling, cost estimating, equipment/tooling knowledge and project management preferred.
  • Robot and vision system programming experience preferred
  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred
  • Technical minded
  • Assertive/self-starter required
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Capable to handle multiple tasks simultaneously required
  • Teamwork and problem solving skills required.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, use hands to position or move, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/ or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. 
  • Must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time, up to and exceeding 8 hours.
